The Pre-Vocational 3rd Year (3ème Prépa-Métiers) is a special class combining general education with vocational discovery. It prepares students for a positive orientation towards vocational pathways while keeping open the possibility of general or technological streams.
- Discover vocational trades in the school’s workshops
- Maintain academic level in core subjects (French, Maths, History…)
- Prepare for orientation towards Vocational Bac (Bac Pro) or CAP
- Sit the National Brevet Diploma (DNB) — vocational series
Admission requirements
Open to students completing Year 9 (3ème) in middle school.
Admission after file review and individual interview.
Accessible to students with disabilities — individual assessment provided.
Programme & timetable
Programme content conforms to the national curriculum.
General subjects: French, Mathematics, History-Geography, Modern Language, Physical Education.
Vocational discovery: workshop sessions in the school’s technical facilities (mechanics, electrical trades, energy systems).

Teaching resources & facilities
Training takes place in the school’s professional workshops equipped with industry-standard tools.
Students benefit from the same technical facilities as Vocational Bac students.
Duration & organisation
1 school year — from September to June.
Full-time initial schooling.
Work experience placements included to discover professional environments.
Orientation after the Pre-Vocational 3rd Year
Graduates follow the same orientation procedure as standard Year 9 students.
Possible pathways: 3-year Vocational Bac, 2-year Vocational Bac (subject to conditions), CAP.
The Pre-Vocational year counts towards the points for secondary school admission.
National Brevet Diploma (DNB)
Students sit the DNB — vocational series.
The diploma validates general and vocational competencies acquired during the year.
Further studies
After the Pre-Vocational 3rd Year, students can access:
Vocational Baccalaureate in 3 years (Bac Pro)
Vocational Baccalaureate in 2 years — subject to conditions and school recommendation
CAP (Certificate of Professional Aptitude) in 2 years
